Dear readers,
We’re starting 2025 with good news: on Monday, Andover News will become a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
This effort has been more than a year in the making and will allow us to achieve our goal of becoming a permanent, independent, nonpartisan, local news source for Andover. As a nonprofit, we can tap into support from institutions, local sponsors and individual donors to expand coverage, as well as implement a new mission of offering opportunities for student journalists to gain real-world experience covering Andover.
What does this mean for Andover News readers?
The switch to a nonprofit offers several benefits for readers, including:
Andover News is now free for all readers. Part of our mission is to ensure access to important local news for every member of our community. To do that, we’re removing the paywall.
Better and expanded coverage of Andover. Andover News has primarily been a one-man band since its launch in June 2022. While I’ll still be handling a large portion of the news coverage, the expanded revenue stream will allow us to pay freelance contributors and, eventually, hire a full-time, professional staff.
Support for student journalists. As part of our mission, we want to offer opportunities to the next generation of news reporters. This fall, we formed a partnership with the Boston University journalism department. We will be publishing a selection of the articles students in the program worked on during the fall semester beginning next week.
How you can help:
We want Andover News to be a community effort. You can help us by:
- Telling your friends and neighbors about Andover News and encouraging them to sign up for the free newsletter published each weekday.
- Asking your company to become a corporate sponsor of Andover News, which includes placement of your company’s banner ad in the newsletter and on the most-visited pages of AndoverMANews.com. For more information, send me a note.
- And, of course, if you are able to and believe local news is important, you can help by making a tax-deductible donation.
As always, please let me know if you have questions, as well as your thoughts and comments on the new Andover News.
Thank you for your continued support,
Dave Copeland
