Andover artists, organizations, schools, and residents have until Oct. 17 to submit proposals for grants to fund local projects in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences.
The Massachusetts Cultural Council gave the Andover Cultural Council $12,800 for this year’s grants. The increase from last year comes as part of increased funding for the state agency, Cultural Council Leslie Seaton Malis said in a news release.
“This is absolutely great news for Andover,” Malis said. “It means we can fund a greater range and number of events and activities, serving more Andover residents. It’s such a boon to the community! We’re greatly indebted to our legislators, Senator Barry Finegold and Representatives Tram Nguyen and Frank Moran, who fought for this increase.”
Malis said the Council once again expects to receive more requests than it can fund. Last year’s grantees included a podcast about opera, a production of “Jack the Ripper” and projects at Andover High School.
“It’s always a competitive process,” she said.
This year, the Council will increasingly look to support projects that focus on diversity, inclusion, and Andover’s broadening cultural base. It is particularly seeking proposals that address cultural change, reaching all segments of the town, especially ones that may have been overlooked in the past.
