Conservation officers and the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue team in New Hampshire were able to rescue a 54-year-old Andover man who injured his leg while hiking to the summit of Cannon Mountain Friday.

Mark Chisholm was on the Kinsman Ridge Trail when he slipped on a rock, fell backwards and injured his leg around 3:30 p.m. Friday. Chisholm was hiking alone and had planned to return on the same trail after reaching the summit.

According to Andover Patch, which first reported this story, Chisholm was able to call 911. Rescuers carried Chisholm to a ski slope, where he was taken to the base of the mountain on an all-terrain vehicle. Around 7:30 p.m. the rescue team turned Chisholm over to Littleton Fire Rescue, which took him to the hospital.

Last month, Xi Chen, a 53-year-old Andover man, died after being overcome with hypothermia while hiking in the White Mountains.
