Good morning, Andover! It’s Tuesday, June 21 and the official first day of summer. Today’s forecast is calling for sun with some clouds and a high of 73 degrees. Here are five things you need to know today:

1. The Ballard Vale United Church will hold its final discernment meeting at 7 pm tonight before it votes on Sunday on whether to break ties with the United Methodist Church because of General Conference of the UMC’s stance on LBTQIA+ parishioners. Ballard Vale United has been discussing the move for 2.5 years. Tonight’s meeting is at 7 pm and open to the public in-person at 23 Clark Road and on Zoom. Contact the church at 978-475-2506, or Pastor@BVUC.org, if you would like to receive the Zoom link.

2. A 53-year-old Andover man died while hiking New Hampshire’s Mount Washington over the weekend.

3. The Andover High School classes of 1970 and 1971 celebrated a combined, COVID-delayed 50th reunion on Friday.

4. As mentioned yesterday, the Select Board, the Conservation Commission and the Master Plan Steering Committee all meet at 7 pm tonight, while the GLTS School Committee meets at 5:15 pm. You can find agendas and Zoom links here.

5. An ongoing drought in most parts of Massachusetts means water levels are down in Andover’s lakes, ponds and rivers. And that means a lot of trash is surfacing, including a sofa.
