While several other communities are bracing for a strike by Republic Services trash collection workers that could begin as early as Tuesday, the company has told town officials it does not expect service interruptions in Andover.

“We spoke with Republic on Friday and were informed there are several unions within the company. The staff assigned to the Andover contract are out of the Tyngsborough office and aren’t members of any union,” Andover Town Manager Andrew Flanagan said Sunday. “Given that, Republic doesn’t expect service interruptions in Andover.

“We will be monitoring pickup tomorrow to ensure that is the case.”

Residents in Lynnfield, Marblehead, North Reading and other communities have been told there could be service interruptions if it does not come to terms on a new contract with the union that serves those towns by Monday. The union has said it could strike as early as Tuesday.

In Marblehead, Republic told officials it would pull workers from other communities to make sure trash was collected on time. Its unclear if some of those workers would be pulled from Andover and, if so, how trash and recycling collection would be affected locally.
