Andover Public Schools enrollment was 5,593 as of Oct. 1, up 2.1 percent from 5,483 students a year ago in another sign that post-pandemic life is starting to resemble pre-pandemic life.

School districts across Massachusetts saw enrollment drop during the coronavirus pandemic beginning in 2020. Andover’s enrollment numbers still lag behind the pre-COVID census on Oct. 1, 2019, when 5, 944 students were enrolled in APS.

Superintendent Magda Parvey told the school committee last week the numbers were still unofficial and will be submitted to the state for certification on Oct. 28. She noted there has been a corresponding drop in the number of home-schooled students, which spiked during the worst of the pandemic.
