Jacob Pletka of Andover claimed second place in the Boys’ 16-and-under division at the New England Junior Sectional Championships, held June 21–24 at several sites across Massachusetts.

Pletka, seeded third in the tournament, advanced to the finals of the four-day event without dropping a set, ultimately falling to top-seeded Noah Richer of Connecticut in the championship match. Richer won the final 6–2, 6–0 to secure his first Sectional title.

The Junior Sectionals is considered the most prestigious junior tennis tournament in the region, drawing 256 of New England’s top-ranked players across four age divisions. Matches were held at Babson College, Brandeis University, Roxbury Latin, Longfellow Wellesley, and Milton Academy.

Pletka’s strong performance throughout the tournament solidified his status as one of the top junior players in New England. His path to the final included decisive wins over several highly ranked opponents, showcasing both consistency and resilience amid challenging weather conditions that included high heat, wind, and occasional rain.

Although Pletka did not claim the title, his runner-up finish boosts his regional ranking and may lead to further opportunities at national-level tournaments this summer.

Winners of the 16-and-under division, including Richer, will go on to represent New England at the upcoming Battle of the Sections tournament in July.

The New England Junior Sectionals are organized by USTA New England and serve as a key stepping stone for young athletes seeking national recognition in the sport.
