A wood-fired pizza place that had originally planned to open in downtown Andover in September appears to be on the verge of opening.

A post on Brooksy’s Instagram page Friday said the wood-fired oven that will be a cornerstone of its menu “will be fired up soon.” Andover News asked Brooks Rice for an update on Thursday and will update this post if we hear back from him.

The Andover Select Board approved a beer and wine license for Brooksy’s Pizza in August — the last local approval the restaurant needed to open. At the time, owner Rice said he hoped to open the restaurant by the end of September.

The new restaurant is taking over the space at 90 Main Street that was previously occupied by Bertucci’s, which closed is Andover location last year.

Rice, of Reading, has worked in restaurants for more than 25 years, but the upscale pizza restaurant will be the first he has owned. The restaurant will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will have seating for 59 people. Rice expects the new restaurant to create 15 jobs.
