A Saugus Japanese restaurant opened its second location in Andover last week.

Shoyu Chinese & Japanese Cuisine at 40 Park Street specializes in Chinese, Japanese and sushi dishes and took over the space formerly occupied by the Park Street Pub, which closed last year. The opening was twice delayed as Shoyu undertook a massive renovation of the space.

Shoyu had originally said it would open by the end of 2022. In February, the Andover Select Board gave the restaurant an extension to open under the liquor license it granted last April. Rules require restaurants to open within six months after receiving their license.

At the time, Shoyu said it would open by March 31.

“This petition is based on the fact that the Applicant has experienced unexpected construction difficulties, which were fortunately overcome in the fall,” Shoyu’s petition to the select board said. “Construction has been pursued diligently and is expected to be completed on or about March 31, 2023.”
