Firefighters from Andover battled a brush fire measuring a mile long and 300 yards wide Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

The fire, which was reported around 7 pm Tuesday, ran along the high-tension power lines on the east side of Interstate 93 near 296 High Plain Road in Andover. There were no injuries.

Andover Fire Rescue and the state Department of Conservation and Recreation remain on scene to continue soaking the area and to check for flareups. The Lawrence, Tewksbury and Wilmington fire departments provided station coverage.

“I encourage anyone who is out in the woods this summer to be cognizant of fire hazards and conditions,” Andover Fire Chief Michael Mansfield said in a news release. “We are experiencing moderate drought conditions which are making the land extremely dry this time of year, that exacerbates these situations.”
