A driver died after their car veered off Interstate 495 south and crashed into a tree early Thursday morning, according to police and fire radio transmissions.
Andover Fire Rescue was called to the area of the highway near the Interstate 93 interchange around 1:00 a.m. The car landed about 15 feet off the roadway and had “severe” front-end damage as a result of the crash. Emergency workers reported one person was trapped inside the car.
Andover Fire took the victim to Lawrence General Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash. The identity of the victim and other details were not released.
