A Japanese restaurant with a location in Saugus that plans to open in Andover is scheduled to ask the select board for a two-month extension for a liquor license approved last year when the board meets Monday at 7.

Shoyu has been renovating the site of the Park Street Pub, which closed last year. The Andover Select Board approved a liquor license for the restaurant and bar last April, and a note on Shoyu’s Website said the restaurant would be open by the end of 2022.

But a filing (see page 9) with the select board for the Monday night’s meeting said Shoyu now plans to finish the build out of the space by March 31, due to “unavoidable construction delays.” The original approval stipulated the restaurant needed to open within six months of receiving approval from the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission.

“This petition is based on the fact that the Applicant has experienced unexpected construction difficulties, which were fortunately overcome in the fall,” the petition to the select board said. “Construction has been pursued diligently and is expected to be completed on or about March 31, 2023.”

The address of the Andover location is 38-40 Park Street. Shoyu’s Saugus location features a menu of Chinese, Japanese and sushi dishes with prices for entrees ranging from $10 to $17.

“Working on it,” Shoyu responded to a Facebook message asking for an update on its opening plans.
