Anna Foley had a game high 20 points as the Andover High School girls’ basketball team capped off a 26-0 season with a 55-51 win over Bishop Feehan in Friday’s Division I state championship at the Tsongas Center in Lowell.

“We deserved it. Any doubt that I had, I had to just tell myself, like, ‘I deserve this,’” Foley told the Boston Globe. “We deserve this. We’ve worked so hard for this and it’s just a long time coming.”

It was the program’s sixth state title and comes after last year’s heartbreaking loss to Springfield Central in the finals. Bishop Feehan (20-5) tried to fight back from an early deficit and pulled to within two points in the game’s closing moments. Michael Buckley sank two free throws to seal the win for the Warriors.

Amelia Hanscom added 18 points before fouling out early in the fourth quarter.

“All the games that we’ve played helped us in these moments,” Andover coach Alan Hibino told the newspaper. “We keep telling them, ‘There’s not too many things that you haven’t faced in four years.’”
