The Massachusetts House and Senate approved a bill Monday granting Andover seven new liquor licenses for package stores.

The legislation, which stems from a warrant article submitted by the select board and approved by Andover Town Meeting in May is awaiting Gov. Charlie Baker’s signature. Businesses and prospective businesses can submit an application to the select board for consideration once Baker signs off on the bill.

“The thought was that the additional licenses would provide a long term economic benefit if they are needed as a result of future development in certain parts of Town,” Town Manager Andrew Flanagan said in an email Tuesday.

The areas targeted by the new license include:

  • River Road / Minuteman Road
  • Shawsheen Plaza
  • Shawsheen Village
  • Historic Mill District / Downtown
  • Dascomb Road
