Andover police are investigating after a student found a kitchen knife in a bathroom at Andover High School Tuesday afternoon.

The student immediately turned the knife in to school staff, Principal Caitlin Brown said in a note to families. The school’s new resource officer was at a training and not at the school when the knife was found. Andover police who responded to the school “assessed the situation and determined there was no ongoing or immediate threat to the high school,” Brown said.

“We thank the student for having the courage to bring this to the attention of administrators,” Brown said. “We will continue to work with our SRO and the APD to ensure the ongoing safety of our students and staff at Andover High School.”
