Live music and theater, historical programs, storytelling, visual arts, and more are among the events that will be funded by 15 grants awarded by the Andover Cultural Council Thursday.
The grants total $12,600 and will fund events being held in Andover during 2023. The grants are funded through the Massachusetts Cultural Council and made up of a mix of money appropriated by the state legislature and local funding.
“This year was notable in that we had a record number of first-time applicants, many of whom proposed some great new projects,” Andover Cultural Council Chair Leslie Seaton Malis said in a statement. “We’re especially thrilled to be able to help support a range of multicultural events – they reflect a new energy and vibrancy in the town’s cultural base and promote the further growth of our own local arts scene.”
The Andover Cultural Council is a part of the network of 329 local councils serving all the cities and towns in the Commonwealth. It is the largest grassroots cultural funding program in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, humanities, and sciences.
