Andover Fire Rescue lent a hand to their counterparts in North Andover in fighting a brush fire Tuesday.
Andover firefighters provided station coverage while North Andover crews battled the blaze. The fire is one of dozens across the state that blanketed the region with haze and the smell of smoke until Wednesday morning’s rain. The largest fires include one in Salem that forced schools to close on Tuesday and a fire in Middleton that had spread over 250 acres of woodland.
Andover firefighters were also on scene to assist in the Middleton fire on Sunday.
A National Weather Service special statement warning of elevated fire risk remained in effect as of Wednesday morning. “Use caution when handling and disposing of ignition sources. Outdoor burning is not recommended,” the statement said.
