Heavy rains Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning caused another waste water overflow at the Lowell Wastewater Treatment Facility, and that prompted another warning from the Andover Health Division to avoid the Merrimack River for 48 hours.
The most recent dump of untreated or partially-treated wastewater between 9:39 p.m. Tuesday and 12:35 a.m. Wednesday and follows similar discharges last week.
The sewerage discharge increases health risks from bacteria and other pollutants for people who come into contact with the water. Overflows occur when stormwater runoff is too much for the sewage system to process.
