The Andover Select Board named Melissa Danisch its new chair on a unanimous vote Wednesday as part of its annual, post-town election reorganization.

Danisch replaces Alex Vispoli and will serve a one-year term. Laura Gregory, who said she had hoped to serve as chair this year but had “too much on my plate,” nominated Danish. The motion was seconded by Christian Huntress, who was elected board clerk later in Wednesday’s meeting.

The board veered from past practice by voting to name Gregory vice chair for a second straight year on a nomination by Danisch. Vispoli said in the past, the members had “rotated through” different leadership positions.

Danisch is a lifetime Andover resident who graduated from Phillips Academy in 1983. She is also an attorney and has worked in real estate and government consulting. She was first elected to the Andover Select Board in 2022 and will be up for reelection in 2025.

Danish and Huntress will assume their new roles at the select board’s first meeting after next month’s Annual Town Meeting.
