The Andover School Committee would vote on a redistricting plan in February under a timeline Andover Public Schools officials laid out at a meeting with parents and other stakeholders Thursday.

The plan would impact students in grades K-8 as the district looks to take advantage of additional space at the new West Elementary School. Currently, there are about 590 students assigned to the 191,028 square-foot West El. School officials said Bancroft and High Plain Elementary Schools are close to capacity.

In addition to balancing enrollment, officials said they would consider transportation distance and safety and student demographic distribution when developing the redistricting plan.

Under the timeline presented Thursday, school officials would collect public input in November, including an online survey. Potential redistricting models would be developed by the district’s consultant in December, and those models would be presented to stakeholders in January. The model would be finalized for school committee consideration in February.

“No one model will be able to maximize all relevant factors,” according to the presentation presented at the meeting. “The final scenario will be created with a give and take approach based on feedback and input from the community regarding priorities.”
