Emily DiCesaro, who lost her seat on the Andover School Committee by just 12 votes in Tuesday’s local election, said she will not ask for a recount.

“Definitely a surprise and not the result I was hoping for, but I will not be asking for a recount,” DiCesaro said in an email Wednesday. “I will be taking up gardening and spending more time with my family.”

DiCesaro, who said the 2025 campaign was a “learning experience for me on lots of levels,” finished third in the four-way race for two school committee seats up for reelection with 1,473 votes. Christopher Shepley finished second with 1,485 votes, and Jacob Tamarkin topped all four candidates with 1,579.

Turnout in Tuesday’s election was 3,149, or 11.5 percent of Andover’s 27,317 registered voters. That was down from 19.1 percent (5,061 ballots cast) last year, when voters made decisions in contested select board and school committee races. Turnout was just 6.4 percent in 2023.
