The following letter to the editor was submitted by Andover resident Ellen Keller, who ran for select board in the 2024 local election. The views expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Andover News. I support Emily DiCesaro in her campaign for re-election to the School Committee and here’s why. I know Emily, I have worked with Emily. I can say with all honesty that Emily is invested in the future of Andover’s public education. Emily is a mature, intelligent and dedicated public servant. Three years ago, she had no experience with policymaking or the intricacies of navigating municipal committees. The learning curve is steep, and often overwhelming and discouraging. Her first term has taught her a lot. With incumbency comes experience, finesse and wisdom. She is fired up to come back stronger. I do believe that experience matters. We do not have the time to waste waiting for candidates to “get up to speed.”

Emily works for you, the residents and taxpayers of Andover, and is a smart steward of our resources. She and I work together on the Permanent Town Building Advisory Committee recently completing the ADA renovation for Doherty Middle School. Emily is thoughtful and highly competent. She asks smart questions and expects thorough, mature responses. She understands that the core of resource management is ensuring that varying interests in the community are approached with empathy and equity. In the coming term, a rational approach to engaging the community and its interest groups including independent teachers, unions, parents, and administrative staff will be critical. Emily has the patience for this and has shown us that she’s willing to put in the time.

Thank you and sincerely,

Ellen J Keller
