A 3.8 magnitude earthquake six miles off the coast of Maine shook Andover and the rest of eastern and central Massachusetts Monday morning.

The tremors, which registered 3.0 magnitude in Andover, shook buildings from central Maine to southern Rhode Island. The epicenter of the 10:22 a.m. earthquake was southeast of York Harbor with a depth of eight miles.

Officials were telling people who are worried about structural damage to buildings should contact their local fire department. Andover Fire Rescue can be reached by calling (978) 475-1281.
