A Marblehead middle school principal told parents in that community this week he is a finalist for the principal’s job at West Middle School in Andover.
“After 14 years within the Marblehead community, I wanted to make sure that you heard this news directly from me,” Matt Fox wrote to parents Monday evening. Fox has been the principal of Veterans School for 14 years, according to the Marblehead Current, which first reported this story.
Other finalists for the opening have not been identified.
Elizabeth (Betty) Taylor has been serving as interim principal at West Middle since January after Tim Corkery retired. Taylor, who has 40 years experience in education, served interim principal at Andover High School during the 2023-24 school year. She was principal of Beverly High School for eight years before retiring.
Corkery announced his retirement in October, saying it was time to “take a really big break.” Corkery’s note to parents and students did not address why he was not waiting until the end of the school year in June to retire.
