Andover is among the growing list of Massachusetts communities where residents have reported mysterious drone sightings in recent days.
Andover police responded to five reports of drone sightings on Thursday, according to the police log, as well as two others earlier last week. Thursday’s calls included four in the evening in the area of Lowell Street and River Road.
“We have contacted the Massachusetts State Police and our Federal partners with these reports and will work with them to attempt to identify anything suspicious,” Andover Police Lt. Edward Guy said.
In addition to Andover, drones have been spotted in Brockton, Boston, Harwich, Plainville, Lynn, North Grafton, and Burlington. The sightings come after similar reports in New Jersey and six other northeastern states last week. Over the weekend, Gov. Maura Healey said state officials are monitoring the situation.
“I am aware of a growing number of drone sightings across the state and continue closely monitoring developments,” Healey said in a statement. “State Police are working collaboratively with local and federal partners.”
On Saturday, police arrested Robert Duffy, 42, of Charlestown, and 32-year-old Jeremy Folick of Bridgewater on Long Island for hazardous drone operation over Boston Harbor and near Logan Airport. The two were scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
