Organizers are warning Andover High School’s post-graduation tradition will not take place this year if they cannot find dozens of volunteers to help staff the event.
“Senior Safari is less than three weeks away, and we are significantly understaffed,” organizers said in a post that has been widely shared on social media in recent days. “This event will not happen if we can’t get these slots filled, so please think about helping and passing the info along to family and friends.”
The Safari, which is sponsored by the Andover High School PAC, has been held since 1993. It’s an all-night, substance-free party on the night of graduation, which is on June 2 this year.
As of Tuesday, organizers said they needed nine volunteers for set up on the afternoon of June 2, 26 chaperones to work overnight shifts, and 42 people to help breakdown and clean up after the event.
“We understand that these times are inconvenient, but we have pulled together in the past, and we need to rally again for these kids,” organizers said. “They have worked so hard all year and have been looking forward to this. Safari is not just a party…it keeps them safe out of potentially dangerous situations.”
Volunteers do not need to have a child in the school system, but are required to fill out a CORI form with the town. For more information on volunteering, see the sign-up form.
