Andover issued an outdoor fire ban Friday as dry, windy conditions persisted throughout the region.
“Please use extreme caution during outdoor activities that pose a fire risk, such as cigarette smoking, hotwork, or using chainsaws and other equipment,” Andover Fire Rescue Chief Kyle P. Murphy said in a statement. “If you see a brush far, please call 911 immediately.”
The ban applies to any open outdoor fire, including fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, and chimineas. The ban is in effect until “further notice.”
The ban comes less than 24 hours after the department responded to a large brush fire on West Hollow. On Friday afternoon, the department sent an engine to Reading to help fight a fire in that town.
