A group of parents who live on High and North Main Streets are asking school committee members to join them on a walk Thursday afternoon to illustrate the impact of the proposed Andover Public Schools redistricting plan on their neighborhood.

“We are putting their safety at risk, as well as their social and emotional well-being, for arbitrary future utilization numbers,” Amanda Abreu, one of the walk’s organizers, said in Facebook post. “Absorb these kids back into the Bancroft/Doherty boundaries for the final scenarios, instead of giving parents a bandaid of bussing.”

Abreu said the current proposals being considered by the school committee would impact 34 elementary and 17 middle school students. The walk will start at High Street and Temple Place and end at West Middle School, and is aimed at showing a lack of safety on the route.

The school committee is expected to vote on the redistricting plan this month. It will be implemented at the start of the 2026-27 school year. The plan is aimed at equalizing building utilization following the opening of the new West Elementary School last fall.
