Friday’s microburst caused millions of dollars of damage, at least two injuries, and a weekend-long power outage for most of Andover. Here’s a look at the damage and the start of what will likely be a weeks-, if not months-, long cleanup (Photos: Dave Copeland/Andover News).

With debris still covering roads and sidewalks, Andover Public Schools will be closed on Monday.


The damage included a centuries-old tree on the common next to Town offices. “It’s so sad,” a woman who was taking photos of the tree said on Saturday. “This tree was here before our great-great-grandparents were alive.”


Winds gusted up to 57 MPH during Friday’s microburst, toppling more than trees — including this porta-potty on Reservation Road.


In the hours after the storm, Andover officials warned “unsafe conditions” would persist through Sunday. Major roads, including Route 133, remained closed on Saturday morning.


Damage to homes and businesses was extensive, including the roof of this Bartlet Street home, which was pierced by a limb. At least two people were injured when a tree fell on another house in Andover.


Makeshift signs and objects were used to block roads that were closed.


Andover officials urged residents to avoid leaving home throughout the weekend, as roads continued to be perilous to pass:


Tree removal companies are going to be busy in a cleanup effort that could take weeks, if not months.
