The father of a five-year-old girl who was killed while crossing the street in Elm Square last year was hit by a pickup truck that ran a stop sign while riding his bike on Wednesday.

Eric Olson told WBZ News Boston, which first reported this story, the irony was not lost on him. Olson suffered bruises, road rash, and an injury to his right hand in the Woburn Street crash.

“I immediately started thinking of my daughter and just unbelievable that I’m in this situation,” he said in an emotional social media post.

Olson became an advocate for safer streets and pressured the Town to accelerate the pace of safety improvements in Elm Square following the death of Sidney Olson in May 2023. Sidney was struck and killed by a tractor trailer while crossing the street with her family.
