Andover will have a special town meeting March 11 after group of residents who oppose a plan to pave the Haggetts Pond Trail successfully petitioned for a three-article warrant.

Each of the three articles on the warrant, if approved, would create laws preventing the Town from going through with its controversial plan. The Town says the project would improve accessibility and prevent the trail from being washed away in heavy rainstorms.

The select board was obligated to call the meeting; town by-laws require the meeting to be held within 45 days after petitions are filed by registered voters.

The special session of Andover’s legislative body will begin at 7 p.m. on March 11 in the Collins Center at Andover High School. The special town meeting will be held just seven weeks before annual town meeting begins on April 29.
