A popular speaking series will make its Andover debut on Oct. 30 at the Andover Country Club.
TEDxAndover is being organized by resident Menka Hariani and will feature a lineup of five speakers, curated TED videos, a dance performance and a networking hour for attendees. Tickets are already on sale and can be purchased on Eventbrite.
The scheduled speakers include:
- Kristen Faulkner, a professional road cyclist and winner of two gold medals at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. She attended Phillips Academy and graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Computer Science.
- Jagpreet Chhatwal, an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School whose research has shaped national and global health policies across diverse disease areas.
- Asha Saxena, a strategic and innovative leader with a track record of building successful technology companies over the past 30 years.
- Dr. Michelle Weise, who leads Long Life Learning Strategies, a consulting firm for organizations seeking to prepare working-age adults for a longer future of work.
- Andover High School student Graham Igo, whose talk is aimed at empowering young people to take pride in their uniqueness and stand tall in a world that often encourages conformity.
- Pat “Planet” Opran, a multi-faceted dancer and performer whose movement background includes styles like Hip-Hop, Jazz Funk, Street Jazz, Theatre Jazz, Tae Kwon Do, and more.
TED “believes powerful ideas, powerfully presented, move us: to feel something, to think differently, to take action,” according to the nonprofit’s Website. TEDx organizers obtain a free license from TED to bring the speaking series to local communities like Andover.
Hariani said she is expecting around 100 attendees. The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 30. Tickets are $75.
