The Andover Select Board reached an agreement with Town Manager Andrew Flanagan that will pay him $262,000 annually, up from his current base salary of $235,000.
The board weighed Flanagan’s performance over his nine years in the job, as well as the town manager salary in similar towns. The new contract takes effect on July 1 and runs through 2030.
“We need to be responsible with our residents to make sure they have a town manager and leader they could rely upon,” select board member Ellen Townson said.
Kevin Coffey cast the lone dissenting vote at Monday’s meeting, saying he supported Flanagan’s reappointment, but the contract “went a bit further than necessary” and that the process of negotiating the contract was “unnecessarily short.” The two sides began negotiating the pact on Oct. 23.
