We are writing in support of Article 29 on the Annual Town Meeting warrant to establish the Central Street Historic District.
We believe history and historic preservation are both foundational elements of Andover’s identity, giving it character and confidence to advance into the future. Central Street is a main gateway into the heart of Andover’s downtown. The street’s stately properties make a statement to passersby that says “Look at me!”, encouraging people to stop, shop, and walk around. This subtle invitation, by the mere presence of Central Street’s unique and impressive properties, is a gold mine for our town. Many towns have recognized and reaped the economic rewards of saving and protecting their historic neighborhoods. Andover would be remiss to lose this wonderful opportunity.
The Central Street area is an Andover treasure. We hope you recognize its importance to our town, and vote YES on Article 29 to support the Central Street Historic District.
