Saying it was time to “take a really big break,” West Middle School Principal Tim Corkery said Wednesday he would retire on Dec. 31.

“Working at West Middle these past five and a half years has been a fulfilling experience,” Corkery said in a note to West Middle School families. “I have enjoyed the opportunity of working with a caring and professional staff. The teachers here are some of the best I have ever worked with, and I know your children are receiving a first class education.”

Corkery’s note did not address why he was not waiting until the end of the school year in June to retire. He said Superintendent Magda Parvey would be naming an interim principal, and “I will work closely with that person to insure there is a smooth transition.”

“I am appreciative of Mr. Corkery’s steadfast and strong leadership to West Middle School over the years, most notably the school’s Blue Ribbon achievement from the U.S. Department of Education in 2023,” Parvey said in a note to staff and families.

Parvey said she has started evaluating potential candidates for interim principal, and a search for a permanent replacement would begin in the spring.

Andover High School, Doherty Middle School, and West Elementary School all have new principals this year.
