  1. I'll be speaking the past, present and future of local news at the Robb Center on June 27 at 1:30 p.m. More than 2,500 local newspapers in the U.S. have closed since 2005, and the closures are continuing at a rate of about two per week. Corporate owners have gutted newsroom staffs at the surviving papers. I'll be talking about what this means for the communities like ours and independent efforts like Andover News to fill.

Sports: Weekend Scores
  • Rachel Chen and Mia Thomas had singles wins to lead AHS girls' tennis to a 5-0 first round win over Franklin on Saturday.
  • Neil Chowdhury won the 400, while Colin Kirn placed third in the 800 at the MIAA Meet of Champions. Ryan Swenson was first n the pole vault.
  • AHS boys lacrosse won 14-6 over Framingham in the first round of the MIAA Division I tournament on Saturday. The girls were eliminated on Sunday with a 19-6 loss to Franklin.
  • Also on Sunday, Methuen eliminated AHS baseball with a 3-1 victory in a first-round matchup. AHS softball couldn't get past Attleboro, falling 17-4 in the first round.
  • Lincoln-Sudbury beat AHS boys' volleyball in a first round matchup on Friday.
  • Andover Fire Rescue was a 7-6 winner of Andover Police in the Battle of the Badges on Saturday.
