A.M. Briefing

Things To Know Today
  1. An Andover News reader shared a video of a liquor store robbery in Lowell (TV-MA for the s-word). Not an Andover story and it's from a few months ago, but it's worth checking out.
  2. I added another cool feature for paid Andover News subscribers in addition to the AI-generated government meeting transcripts I started posting last week. Paid subscribers can now listen to the Andover Police and Fire Rescue scanners on a live stream. I'm still working out the kinks, so please be patient.
Today In Andover History
James Locke purchased 111 Main Street on October 27,1824 and opened Locke's Tavern. The tavern became the site for a few local historic moments, including meetings of the group that successfully lobbied to run an extension of the Boston-Lowell train line through Wilmington and Andover. The building had several other owners before being converted into the Locke Tavern Condominiums in 2002.

Sports
  • AHS field hockey finished the regular season with a 1-0 win at Chelmsford Wednesday.
  • Haverhill and AHS girl's volleyball are sharing the 2023 Merrimack Valley Conference title after the 16-ranked Haverhill beat 7th-rankedWarriors 3-1 Wednesday. AHS (17-2) handed Haverhill (17-1) its only loss when they played earlier this season.
Results compiled from reports by coaches, athletes, parents, the Boston Globe, AHS Athletics and other media.
