Today in Andover History
Charles Smith began the first of two stints as pastor of South Church on October 28, 1852. Smith served for 13 months, then returned on December 18, 1861 and remained pastor for the next 14 years. Smith's wife, Caroline, wrote the lyrics for the hymn "Tarry With Me" in 1852 after hear­ing a ser­mon by Hen­ry M. Dex­ter of Bos­ton on The Adapt­ed­ness of Re­li­gion to the Wants of the Aged."

Sports
  • AHS golf won the Merrimack Valley Conference Championship Thursday, with Lucas Jenney (73) placing second overall and Jake Morgan (78) finishing 9th.
  • MIAA post season tournaments for most sports will be starting next week. We'll post the schedules as soon as they are finalized.

  • Monday: Cloudy with occasional light rain, high of 53. Clouds begin clearing out at night, low of 36.
