- Need a wreath? The AHS marching band is raising money with its annual wreath sale (more info).
Charles Smith began the first of two stints as pastor of South Church on October 28, 1852. Smith served for 13 months, then returned on December 18, 1861 and remained pastor for the next 14 years. Smith's wife, Caroline, wrote the lyrics for the hymn "Tarry With Me" in 1852 after hearing a sermon by Henry M. Dexter of Boston on The Adaptedness of Religion to the Wants of the Aged."

- AHS golf won the Merrimack Valley Conference Championship Thursday, with Lucas Jenney (73) placing second overall and Jake Morgan (78) finishing 9th.
- MIAA post season tournaments for most sports will be starting next week. We'll post the schedules as soon as they are finalized.

- Today: Last day of summer-like weather, with lots of sun and a high of 78 and that could challenge the record. Clouds move in tonight, low of 45.
- Tomorrow: Seasonable weather returns, with a high of 54 and light rain in the afternoon. Low of 49 at night with a 90 percent chance of rain.
- Monday: Cloudy with occasional light rain, high of 53. Clouds begin clearing out at night, low of 36.

Finance Committee Rejects New School Article
|
|
|
The push to build a new Andover High School had its biggest setback to date as the finance committee voted to not recommend special town meeting approve spending $1.3 million to complete a detailed design of the $451.5 million building.

No Threat At Andover Preschool That Locked Down
|
Primrose School of Andover at 503 South Main Street said the school was in lockdown for about 30 minutes after a "community member there may be a threatening person in the area."
