A local nonprofit that has been supporting Andover Schools since 1952 handed out its annual scholarships for students and grants for local groups.
Andona, perhaps best known for putting on Clown Town every May, awarded $2,000 scholarships as well as $7,000 in “camperships” to allow local kids to enroll in Andover Youth Service programs and attend summer camps.
Among the recipients of the scholarships was a student who brought established Andover High School’s first Key Club, and a student who established a new oral history tradition in partnership with the Andover Center for History and Culture.
Andona also awarded grants ranging from $500 to $2,000 to 28 groups that support scholarly work, sports activities, arts organizations, and Andover Public Schools. A Better Chance in Andover, Andover Vocal Music, various AHS sports teams and other groups were among the recipients.
Andover/North Andover YMCA Names
Trish Villanueva recently started work as Vice President of Operations for the Andover/North Andover YMCA, where she will oversee community relations, membership, programs, volunteer recruitment, collaborations, budgeting and general operations.
“YMCAs are important to communities. Where else can diverse populations meet in one space and feel welcome and included, feel prioritized and be seen?” Villanueva said in a news release. “Regardless of social, economic, or any other background, everyone is welcome at the Y. Come as you are. We have many opportunities to serve community and create lasting changes.”
