Andover and much of the rest of Massachusetts will officially enter a heatwave early Wednesday afternoon when the temperature rises above 90 degrees for a third straight day. To help residents cool off, the town is extending hours at the Robb Center so it can be used as a cooling center.

The Center at 30 Whittier Court will be open from 8 am to 8 pm on Wednesday and Thursday and open to “anyone looking to seek relief from the high temperatures and humidity levels.” Movies will be shown at 6 pm on both nights, and the town said it would add additional days and hours as needed.

Andover officials are also recommending Memorial Hall Library as a place to get out of the heat. The library is open from 9 am to 9 pm Monday through Thursday and 9 am to 5 pm on Fridays and weekends.

Pomps Pond at 147 Abbot Street is open weekdays from noon to 7 pm and weekends from 10 am to 6 pm. We have additional information on Pomps Pond and other nearby places to go for a swim.

The town’s statement also includes tips for staying safe in extreme heat.
