Among the calls that kept Andover police this past week, according to the police log:

  • More than 40-storm-related calls, including downed trees and wires and blocked road.
  • A sinkhole in a park.
  • Suspected drugs that ended up being cigarette ashes

Andover police made x speeding traffic stops between Aug. 30-Sept. 6, up/down from 67 last week. As Andover begins enforcing the new, town-wide, 25 mph speed limit, Andover News will include the speeding enforcement information in addition to the selected entries from each day’s police log.

Call of the Week

Wednesday, Sept. 6, 10:39 pm: “Multiple 911 calls looking for the phone number for Draft Kings. No emergency.”

Wednesday, Sept. 6

8 warnings and 1 citation issued for speeding, and 3 speeding stops that were not designated as citations or warnings in the log.
6:22 am: Truck stuck by bridge, Andover/Central Streets. “Vehicle worked itself out clear.”
12:19 pm: Injured bird, Burtt Road.
12:58 pm: Vehicle break in, Stevens Street.
5:19 pm: Another student assaulted caller’s son on way home from school, Lowell Street.
5:23 pm: Caller says a sick “fox or coyote” is next to her door and won’t leave. “Officer reports nothing is wrong with the animal and it ran back into the woods.”
10:02 pm: Ranger says someone left items behind that may contain drugs. “Officer reports this was cigarette ash, no issue.”
10:39 pm: “Multiple 911 calls looking for the phone number for Draft Kings. No emergency,” Nicoll Drive.

Thursday, Sept. 7

4 warnings and 2 citations issued for speeding, and 0 speeding stops that were not designated as citations or warnings in the log.
8:20 am: Large raccoon near Federal Street traffic lights.
8:53 am: Neighbor issue, Bailey Road.2:38 pm: Suspicious activity, Juliette Street/Topping Road.
4:04 pm: German Shepard left in car, Railroad Street.
5:00 pm: Kids driving go-cart, Bridle Path Road/Landau Lane. Gone upon arrival.
5:52 pm: Theft at CVS, Main Street.
5:53 pm: Neighbor issue, Andover Street.
6:35 pm: “Aggressive dog” barking outside Clark Road house. Dog ran off.7:34 pm: Glass on North Main Street.

Friday, Sept. 8

5 warnings and 2 citations issued for speeding, and 0 speeding stop that were not designated as citations or warnings in the log.
8:07 am: White van all over the road, Interstate 93/Dascomb Road.
10:46 am: Trespassing, Greenwood Road.
11:54 am: Hit-and-run damaging three vehicle, Red Spring Road. Summons issued after car located on Morraine.
2:03 pm: Unresponsive 27-year-old man, Main Street.
9:19 pm: Callers’ 13-year-old son went for a walk before the storm and has not been heard from, Memorial Circle. Child returned home.
2:55 -11:56 pm: More than 40 storm-related calls.

Saturday, Sept. 9

0 warnings and 0 citations issued for speeding, and 0 speeding stops that were not designated as citations or warnings in the log.
12:07 am: Noise complaint, Skopelos Circle.
3:53 am: Suspicious activity, Regency Ridge.
9:21 am: Vandalism, Chandler/Ledge Roads.
10:41 am: Vandalism, Essex Street.
11:40 am: Well-being check, Pine Brook Drive.
1:28 pm: Well-being check, Essex Street.
3:45 pm: Well-being check, Main Street.
5:52 pm: Suspicious activity, Oriole Drive.
8:34 pm: Well-being check, Balmoral Street.
9:11 pm: Suspicious activity, Abbot Street.

Sunday, Sept. 10

0 warnings and 0 citations issued for speeding, and 0 speeding stops that were not designated as citations or warnings in the log.
10:07 am: Report of truck stuck under bridge, Andover/Central Streets. No vehicles in area.
11:35 am: Man asking for well-being check on father, who he cannot get in touch with, Railroad Street. Caller reports he got in touch with someone who reported his father is okay.
2:23 pm: Multiple people fighting on River Road. Most people had left before police arrived.”Everyone remaining “is just looking to leave and not file a police report.”
9:37 pm: Man harassing a woman and trying to get in her door, North Main Street.

Monday, Sept. 11

1 warning, 0 citations issued for speeding, and 0 speeding stops that were not designated as citations or warnings in the log.
12:59 am: Illegal burn, Oak Street.
9:39 am: Sinkhole in Central Park, Bartlet Street.
10:22 am: Animal complaint, Cross Street.
10:43 am: Harassment, Launching Road.
2:17 pm: Tree fell on vehicle, no injuries, Brickstone Square.
3:06 pm: Theft, Andover Street.
7:02 pm: Package theft, Salem Street.
10:41 “3-5 loud pops” in area of Haverhill Street. Nothing found.

Tuesday, Sept. 12

4 warnings, 1 citation issued for speeding, and 1 speeding stop that was not designated as citations or warnings in the log.
7:06 am: Wheels stolen and car broken into, Campanelli Drive.
9:02 am: Turtle in road, Stevens Street.
10:01 am: Vehicle break-in, Campanelli Drive.
10:16 am: Illegal dumping, River Road.
10:55 am: Man refusing to leave Penobscot Way home. Family came to an agreement.
12:55 pm: Injured duck, Essex Street/Red Spring Road.
2:11 pm: Package theft, River Road.
2:43 pm: Caller can’t find their vehicle, Park Street.
5:11 pm: Attempted home break-in, Paulornette Circle.
5:23 pm: Elderly woman thumbing for a ride and walking in and out of roadway, North Main Street State Police transported her from the on ramp to Interstate 495 south to store in Lawrence.
5:47 pm: Cat hit, killed on Central Street.
