AHS Quiz Team Poised To Make A Run
The Andover High School Quiz Team will tape a first-round match for Season 14 of WGBH’s High School Quiz Show at WGBH studios in Brighton on Jan. 21. You can be in the studio audience for the taping by requesting free tickets.
Last year, Andover lost to North Quincy High School in the finals. The team includes Luke Suh, Aniketh Sherigar, Sampath Kalagarla, Mahathi Veluri, Liam Bennett and William Conner and is advised by Alan Hibino
This year’s second-round matches will be on April 8 and 15, followed by semi-finals on May 6 and 13 and the finals on May 20. Episodes of the show will air at a later date.
Andover Places 4th In First Lego League Robotics Competition
Doherty Middle School students joined students from Bancroft and West Elementary Schools to compete from 260 teams in the First Lego League Competition at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The team, made up of Claire Gu (Bancroft, grade 5), Bowen Niu (West Elementary, grade 5), Merson Tang (Doherty, grade 6) and team captain Ryan Zhu (Doherty, grade 6), placed 4th in Robot Performance and won the best coach award out of 72 teams.

Doherty Middle Schooler Lauded For Service Leadership
Olivia Wright, an eighth grader from Doherty Middle School was recently selected as Andover’s 2023 Project 351 Ambassador for her inspiring ethic of service and values of kindness, humility, and gratitude. Project 351 is a non-profit organization that empowers a youth-led movement for change powered by an eighth grade student representing every city and town in Massachusetts.
“Olivia was nominated by her teachers as she is a student who demonstrates empathy, leadership, and composure,” says Doherty Middle School Principal Robin Wilson. “We are proud to have Olivia represent Andover Public Schools. We know she will have a wonderful experience as an ambassador.”
On Saturday, Wright joined more than 425 Ambassadors and Alumni mentors for Project 351’s 13th annual Launch and Service Day in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & Coretta Scott King. Launch Day kicks-off 12 months of leadership development through unifying service, Alumni mentorship, and enrichment through Project 351’s Service Leadership Academy.
Students For Seniors
Andover High School seniors Emma Landry and Maggie Mullen started the AHS Students for Seniors club last year as a way to give back to the community and build connections between the town’s students and senior citizens. Before Christmas, the club was at the Robb Center making gifts for Andover senior citizens.
