A 56-year-old North Reading man had to be taken to a Boston hospital by helicopter after an early-morning crash on Interstate 93 in Andover Monday.

Massachusetts State Police were called to the scene near Exit 39B on the southbound side of the highway around 2:18 a.m., where they found a 2008 Chevy Malibu crashed into the guardrail on the left side of the highway. The victim, whose identity was not released, was trapped in the car and had to be extracted by rescue workers.

No one else was in the victim’s car, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. There were no immediate updates on the man’s condition from Boston medical Center, where he was taken by helicopter.

Monday’s morning’s crash follows a fatal, single-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 in Andover on Sunday.
