Andover High School Principal Caitlin Brown

With just two days left before Andover High School opens for the 2023-24 school year, the chair of the Andover School Committee said the search for an interim principal “is ongoing” and Caitlin Brown, who resigned earlier this month, will continue as principal to start the year.

“The search for an interim high school principal is ongoing, and I expect [Superintendent Magda] Parvey will share information with the public when the process is further along,” Tracey Spruce said in an email Monday. “Ms. Brown continues in her role as principal of AHS and will oversee the kickoff of the new school year there on Wednesday.”

Andover News asked the Andover Education Association, the union that represents teachers, for comment and will update this story if we hear back from them. The union announced Brown’s departure in a Facebook post before APS and framed it as part of an ongoing “administrative leadership crisis” under Parvey, who started at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year. Administrators have also left High Plain, Bancroft, and South Elementary School in the past two years.

Brown resigned Aug. 9 after being named Dean of Newton South High School’s Goodwin House.

Brown finished her third year as principal in June after four years as an assistant principal and served on the Andover High School Building Committee. Before that, she taught social studies in Foxborough Public Schools, where she was also the athletic director and the varsity soccer coach.
