More than 1,500 people have donated to a fundraiser for Joey Calcavecchia, the victim of last week’s crash on Interstate 93 north in Andover.
Better known as The Roaming Foodie on TikTok, Calcavecchia, of Derry, NH, was involved in a four-car pileup on May 14 near exit 42, Massachusetts State Police said. The crash remains under investigation, but initial reports say the crash happened when a deer darted across the highway just before 1 a.m.
Paramedics rushed multiple people to area hospitals for treatment. Calcavecchia was airlifted to Tufts Medical Center in Boston with serious injuries, including swelling around the brain, a collapsed lung, broken ribs, and skull and facial fractures, his family said in a note on its GoFundMe page. As of Monday afternoon, the effort had raised nearly $100,000 for his recovery.
The Roaming Foodie has about 140,000 followers on TikTok, where he reviews food and restaurants in New England. His last review before the crash was for Joia Restaurant & Lounge, an Italian eatery in South Boston.
