Among the calls that kept Andover police busy last week, according to the police log:

  • A pig on the loose.
  • A reported “theft of trade secrets.”
  • A sleeping man mistaken for a drunk man.

As Andover begins enforcing the new, town-wide, 25 mph speed limit, Andover News will include the speeding enforcement information in addition to the selected entries from each day’s police log. Police made 15 speeding stops between Oct. 31 and Nov. 7, down from 15 last week.

Call of the Week

Saturday, Nov. 4, 11:25 am: “Caller was scared due to a new washer turning on” on Spring Grove Road. No one found in home.

Tuesday, Oct. 31

2 warnings issued for speeding.
9:53 am: Caller ran over cat on Haverhill Street.
1:54 pm: Report of past hit-and-run into a rock wall on Upland Road.
3:10 pm: Mail theft, Lowell Street.

Wednesday, Nov. 1

2 warnings issued for speeding.
9:33 am: Young child on corner of intersection of Lovejoy Road and Lowell Street. Gone upon arrival.
10:13 am: Well-being check, Newman Hill Road.
12:27 pm: Two teens took off from Andover High School when parents arrived to have them dismissed. “Parents want to file a report.”
|1:28 pm: Man put backpack in trash barrel on Bartlet Street and ran away. Backpack had one Gotorade.
9:41 pm: Building superintendent reports two people who appear to be homeless living in the building, Main Street. Officer spoke with one and the other was gone upon arrival.

Thursday, Nov. 2

2 speeding stops that not designated as citations or warnings in the log.
11:23 am: Property line dispute.
7:52 pm: Child did not return home after school, Avery Lane.

Friday, Nov. 3

1 warning issued for speeding. There was 1 speeding stop that was not designated as a citation or warning in the log.
4:33 am: Caller hit light pole while pulling up to a drive-up ATM on Main Street. No injuries.
6:54 am: Suspicious activity, Lowell Street.
12:01 pm: Harassment, Minuteman Road.
1:59 pm: Report of drunk man in River Road hotel lobby. He fell asleep while waiting for a ride.
4:31 pm: Walk in wishes to report a theft of trade secrets,” Bulfinch Drive.
7:07 pm: Ambulance 3 hit deer, River Road/Nollet Drive. No injuries.
11:34 pm: Unwanted guest, Parnassus Place.

Saturday, Nov. 4

No reported speeding stops.
5:51 am: Noise complaint at Minuteman Road hotel.
11:25 am: “Caller was scared due to a new washer turning on” on Spring Grove Road. No one found in home.

Sunday, Nov. 5

2 warnings and 1 citation issued for speeding.
3:51 am: Noise complaint, Memorial Circle.
8:53 am: Man standing in middle of intersection and North Street and River Road. Unable to locate.
9:18 am: Car break-in, Minuteman Road.
12:20 pm: Loose pig, Off Webster Street/Webster Street. Unable to locate.
12:22 pm: Drunk guest refusing to leave room at River Road hotel. Guest left in cab.12:39 pm: Suspicious activity, Timothy Drive.
12:45 pm: Crash with injuries, Lowell Street.
6:59 pm: Hit-and-run, Colonial Drive/South Main Street.
8:51 pm: Man thrashing around inside car, Colonial Drive. “He checks out and lives at this location.”

Monday, Nov. 6

2 warnings and 1 citation issued for speeding. There was also 1 speeding stop that was not designated as citations or warnings in the log.
10:43 am: Crash with injury, Federal Street/River Road
12:38 pm: Driver through something at caller’s car on Main Street. Officer “spoke to both parties and no crime was committed.”
12:51 pm: Well-being check on Meals On Wheels client, Hidden Road.
12:59 pm: Caller receiving threats, Stowe Court.
5:09 pm: Carpet machine missing on Minuteman Road.
6:28 pm: Car drifting over center line, Red Spring Road. “They were just a little lost finding their next pick up location. No issue.”
9:01 pm: Suspicious activity, Tech Drive.
10:13 pm: Arrested a 30-year-old Methuen woman, Minuteman/River Roads, and charged her with OUI, alcohol in motor vehicle , and open container possession.
