Caitlin Brown, who resigned as Andover High School principal last week, accepted a job at Newton South High School.

Principal Tamara Stras confirmed by email Brown had been named Dean of Newton Souths Goodwin House. The school has four houses, which are aimed at building “smaller communities within Newton South.”

Both Brown and Andover Superintendent Magda Parvey said last week the decision to leave AHS weighed heavily on achieving work-life balance.

Brown’s resignation came just three weeks before the start of the school year. The Andover Education Association, which represents Andover teachers, said her resignation is part of an ongoing “administrative leadership crisis” under Parvey, who started at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year. Administrators have also left High Plain, Bancroft, and South Elementary School in the past two years.

  1. There is no need for a search committee. You have the right person. The school system should look at promoting from within. Look for someone who understands the challenges of the job, the students, the parents, the teachers, and the community. Hiring outsiders who tend to leave after a short term is not working. AHS has the right candidate in Scott Darlington. Promote him!
