The Andover Health Division regularly inspects restaurants and stores that serve and sell food. Andover News reviewed reports from health inspections conducted during the month of June.

Andover News publishes food service inspection reports monthly. It’s important to note it’s not unusual for a restaurant to have a few minor infractions in a report.

The reports below are broken into four categories: restaurants, stores, schools, and other establishments, which can include schools, daycare centers, nursing homes, hotels and other facilities that serve food.


Restaurants

Dunkin, 139 River Road on July11:
Areas where establishment was out of compliance:

  • Broken lid on deli unit holding pre-made eggs, sausage and bacon.

India Street Cravings, 209 North Main Street on July 27:
Areas where establishment was out of compliance:

  • Inserts for sandwich unit were dirty, including left over food from the night before.
  • Non-food contact surfaces not properly cleaned.
  • Physical facilities not properly installed, maintained and/or cleaned.

La Fina, 27 Main Street on July 17:
Areas where establishment was out of compliance:

  • Observed deli unit refrigerator with mold and rodent droppings in bottom shelf. no food currently being held there.
  • Observed rodent droppings under rack holding paper goods in hallway.
  • Observed fruit flies around bar area and Prive bar.
  • Door leading to trash shoot, not properly latching- doesn’t stay closed.
  • Observed egg whites in walk in with use by date 7/13.
  • Observed non-compliant plastic black straws and bar stirrers.

Mootone, 15 Railroad Street, on July 6:
Areas where establishment was out of compliance:

  • Hand sink at bar area was being used as storage for wiping clothes.
  • Hand sink located in kitchen next to prep sink was blocked by two large soy sauce container.
  • No soap provided at bar area hand sink.
  • No hand sink signs at bar and sushi station.
  • Observed day old rice in rice cooker at sushi station.
  • Observed buckets holding onions and soy sauce above buckets of detergent.
  • Food-contact surfaces not properly cleaned & sanitized.
  • Observed rodent droppings throughout sushi station, floors, behind refrigerator and on white rag on top of table.
  • Contamination prevented during food preparation, storage and display.
  • Observed white freezer in back hallway with mold.
  • Observed double door refrigerator in kitchen holding sauces, broccoli and thawed meats with food/dust debris on walls and fan.
  • Observed grease and food accumulation throughout cookline, and fryer on right side.
  • Wall in kitchen holding fire extinguisher paint is peeling.

Re-inspection – Mootone, 15 Railroad Street, on July 13:
Areas where establishment was out of compliance:

  • Lots of improvement.
  • Cookline floor and side walls need more degreasing.
  • Observed new rodent droppings along bar seating area below high top chairs.

Otto Pizza, 27 Main Street on July 18:
Areas where establishment was out of compliance:

  • Bar area not meeting temp requirements and missing cold water knob.
  • Observed hand sink located next to walk in blocked by large rack holding spices and vinegar bottles.
  • Observed fruit flies at bar area.
  • Observed rodent droppings throughout pre area, behind and under equipment and on prep table holding pan rack.
  • Observed rodent droppings underneath crates holding pizza boxes in office area.
  • Observed pizza by the slice, not protected from flies and personnel passing by to go to the restroom.
  • Observed non-compliant colorful plastic straws and black bar stirers, 4 oz portion cups holding blue cheese and marinara sauce.

Raagini Indian Bistro, 209 North Main Street on July 10::
Areas where establishment was out of compliance:

  • Observed live ants under ice bin near soft drink hoses.

Sebastian’s Grab-and-Go, 100-200 Brickstone Square on July 5:
Areas where the establishment was out of compliance:

  • Adequate handwashing sinks properly supplied and accessible.
  • Observed non-compliant plastic straws and hot coffee cup lids.

Sebastian’s Cafe, 100-200 Brickstone Square on July 5:
Areas where the establishment was out of compliance:

  • All hand sinks located in front of house were not meeting temperature.
  • Observed mice droppings behind stove and ovens in back kitchen.
  • Observed dead mouse and droppings besides double door refrigerator in prep area.
  • Ice scoop stored above ice bin in dusty area.
  • Walk in freezer and refrigerator are not self-latching.
  • Manual Warewashing, Sink Compartment Requirements.
  • Dishwasher wasn’t meeting high temp requirements.
  • Grease and food debris accumulation under fryer, grill station, along food display line and between equipment.
  • Remove all equipment not being used.
  • Observed polystyrene non-compliant straws and coffee cup lids.

RE-INSPECTION – Sebastian’s Cafe, 100-200 Brickstone Square on July 19:
Areas where the establishment was out of compliance:

  • None.

Stores

Bear Mountain, 80 Andover Street on July 18:
Areas where the establishment was out of compliance:

  • Back door not properly sealing or closing.
  • Observed rodent droppings in dry storage area along the wall behind where pasta and flour stored.
  • Observed hood crates with dust and grease build up.
  • Backdoor leading to trash and parking not properly sealed or closing all the way.
  • Observed multiple sized cup lids and plastic utensils non-compliant with polystyrene regs.

Shawsheen Village Liquors, 2 Poor Street on July 7:
Areas where establishment was out of compliance:

  • None.

West Andover Mobil, 139 River Road on July 11:
Areas where establishment was out of compliance:

  • Observed tuna salad sandwich dated 7/2/23 and Italian sub dated 7/9/23.

Wine Sense, 166 North Main Street on July 7:
Areas where establishment was out of compliance:

  • Plastic cups used for wine tasting not compliant with polystyrene ban.

Schools & Daycare

No inspections during June.


Other Establishments

Corporate Cafe & Catering LLC, 18 NEBC Drive on July 11:
Areas where the establishment was out of compliance:

  • Observed rodent droppings inside and under fryer,near mixer and back storage area.
  • Pest control logs indicated that no pest activity has been noted.
  • Non-compliant red plastic coffee stirrers

Cafe Services, 800 Federal Street on July 12:
Areas where the establishment was out of compliance:

  • Hand sink located at deli station not meeting hot water requirement.
  • Observed prepared spicy tuna salad without date marking.
  • Observed box of half & half dated use by date 7/10/23.
  • Observed rodent droppings throughout dry storage area floor.
  • Observed rodent droppings below fryer.
  • Missing ceiling tile in dry storage area.
  • Anti-choking procedures in food service establishment.
  • Food allergy awareness.

  • Observed non compliant 2 oz cups and plastic straws.

  • Non-compliant coffee cup lids.
