Andover Public Schools placed West Elementary School Principal Jennifer Hunt on medical leave to address what she described as an “unanticipated health issue.”

Hunt sent a letter to West El families Nov. 3 announcing her leave. That note was followed by a note from Superintendent Magda Parvey Wednesday, telling families an interim principal would be named in Hunt’s absence. Jason DiCarlo, the district’s elementary instruction director, will be onsite until the interim administrator is named.

“Unfortunately, Mrs. Hunt does not have a specified return at this time,” Parvey said. “I know this decision is difficult for her as a dedicated leader, and she will be missed as we progress through the school year. Her wellbeing is the priority, and I wish Mrs. Hunt good health.”

Hunt started at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year, taking over from Liz Roos, who worked at West El for 30 years. Before coming to Andover, Hunt had been an elementary school princiapl in Swampscott.
