The Town started a search Monday to replace Andover Fire Rescue Chief Michael Mansfield, who plans to retire in July.

Andover issued a request for proposals to find a firm to assist in recruiting candidates. Town Manager Andrew Flanagan said Monday he hopes a new fire chief will by April 1. “It’s typical for a fire or police chief selection process,” he said.

Mansfield took over the department in January 2007 and began addressing major issues, including substandard equipment, and low morale from a force that, at the time, had not had a new contract in three years.
